Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Scanalbum (“we,” “us,” the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.

1. What Scanalbum does

Scanalbum lets you photograph physical photo albums, automatically detects and crops the individual photos on each page, reads handwritten or printed captions and dates using AI, and builds a chronological web album you can share with family. You can invite family members to view, comment on, favorite, or (if you allow it) edit captions and dates on your albums.

2. Your account and content

You’re responsible for the photos and other content you upload, and for having the right to upload and share it. Don’t upload content you don’t have the right to share, or content that’s illegal, infringing, or violates someone else’s privacy or rights. You’re responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for anyone you invite to access your family’s albums.

You keep ownership of everything you upload. We don’t claim any ownership over your photos or the captions, dates, or stories you or your family add. We process your content only to provide the Service (detecting and cropping photos, reading captions and dates, building and hosting your album, sending notifications you’ve opted into).

3. Family sharing and access

Access to your albums is controlled by you, account-wide: either specific email addresses you add, or anyone with your unique family link who verifies their email. You’re responsible for who you invite or share your link with, and for reviewing the family member list from time to time. We’re not responsible for access you’ve granted to people you’ve invited or whose link you’ve shared further.

4. Plans, billing, and hosting

Scanalbum offers a Free plan (limited pages, 30-day hosting), a one-time Pro purchase (more pages, downloads, longer hosting), and a Premium subscription (recurring, more pages and storage, family uploads, hosting for as long as you subscribe). Prices and what’s included are shown on the pricing page at the time of purchase. Payments are processed by Stripe — we don’t store your card details.

Pro is a one-time payment, not a subscription, and isn’t refundable once the pages or storage it unlocks have been used. Premium renews automatically each billing period until you cancel; cancelling stops the next renewal but doesn’t refund the current period. If a Free album’s 30-day hosting period ends without an upgrade, the album and its photos may be deleted — download anything you want to keep before then.

5. AI processing

Detecting photos, reading captions and dates, and other AI features are provided using third-party AI processing providers. Your photographed pages and extracted text are sent to these providers solely to perform this processing, under their own data-processing terms. We don’t use your family photos to train our own or any third party’s models.

AI detection and transcription can make mistakes — a photo might be missed, mis-cropped, or a caption or date misread. Always review important results yourself; Scanalbum doesn’t guarantee accuracy.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for anything illegal, or to upload content you don’t have rights to.
• Attempt to access another account or family’s albums without authorization.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service, its infrastructure, or attempt to bypass usage limits.
• Use the Service to harass, threaten, or violate the privacy of others.

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

7. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Scanalbum available and your albums accessible, but we don’t guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may change, add to, or remove features over time. We’ll try to give reasonable notice of changes that materially affect what you’ve paid for.

8. Liability

The Service is provided “as is.” To the extent permitted by law, we’re not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of photos or data — this is why we recommend downloading your own copy of anything irreplaceable. Nothing here limits liability where it can’t legally be limited.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of Norwegian courts.
